About Silence the Shame
Silence the Shame, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating mental health stigma, reducing health disparities, and improving rates of suicide among vulnerable populations. Through community conversations, compelling content, and culturally responsive programs, we aim to normalize the conversation, peel back the layers of shame, and promote mental wellness for vulnerable and disparate population groups, including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer or Questioning (LGBTQ+), individuals in high-stress jobs, older adults and rural communities. Silence the Shame was branded to eliminate the shame and stigma of mental health challenges.

History
In May 2016, music executive veteran Atlanta, Georgia native Shanti Das partnered with celebrities, influencers, and industry colleagues to launch the mental health stigma campaign #silencetheshame, jumpstarted the conversation about mental illness and suicide. On May 5, 2017, Das and a small group of community volunteers promoted the inaugural National Silence the Shame Day as a global awareness initiative to peel back the layers of shame and stigma related to mental health. The campaign received over 90,000,000 impressions, reached 75,000,000 people on social media, and was one of Atlanta's top five trending hashtags. As a result, The Hip-Hop Professional Foundation was founded by Das in August 2017. In 2018, the organization changed the Hip-Hop Professional Foundation's name to Silence the Shame, Inc. to maintain branding and engage donors to support mental health and suicide prevention. In addition, Das's community collaboration has helped change the conversation about mental health and envisions communities collaborating to improve access to mental health services and supports and prioritize mental wellness.
